Arsenal receive boost after £23m David Raya bid’ as goalkeeper sends shocking transfer message to Brentford

Arsenal have reportedly submitted their opening bid for Brentford goalkeeper David Raya as Mikel Arteta looks to provide stronger competition for current stopper Aaron Ramsdale. Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United all baulked at the Bees’ £40million valuation of the Spain international, who is set on a move to the Emirates.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that an offer of £20m up front with a further £3m in add-ons has been sent to Brentford on Thursday evening, £17m shy of their previous valuation after the 27-year-old has already told the Bees that he wants to leave for Arsenal.

Personal terms have already been agreed upon, while if a move is completed then current Gunners number two Matt Turner would be likely to leave – with Nottingham Forest interested in the American star.

Brentford have been open regarding their stance on Raya, with boss Thomas Frank admitting that they are prepared to let him leave if their valuation of £40m is met – though he does have just one year remaining on his contract and is unwilling to pen a new deal.

“Like everything it’s a negotiation,” Frank said when news first broke of Arsenal’s interest. “I would love to get £40m. That’s what he’s worth. I think he’s one of the best keepers, he was one of the four best keepers in the Premier League last season, so what is the price?

“And [Harry] Kane you’re talking one year left and £150m. The keeper is at his best age I think. But anyway a good thing I am not negotiating. That is for Phil [Giles] and Matthew [Benham] and Arsenal. I just take care of the coaching.”

According to latest reports from Fabrizio, Arsenal’s offer was rejected However both sides remain in talk with Brentford desperate to sell the Spaniard who has just 1 year in his contract.

If successful, Raya would join Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber as Mikel Arteta’s summer recruits in a spree that would surpass the £200m mark as they look to go one better than last season and dethrone Manchester City.
