Arsenal started their Premier League campaign with a win over Nottingham Forest and David Raya’s family and agents were they to see it. The Spaniard is on the verge of becoming a Gunners player on an initial loan with an option to make the move permanent for £27million, football.london understands
Raya had just 11 months left on his current contract at the Gtech Community Stadium and is said to have already agreed personal terms with the Gunners – along with completing a medical earlier this week.
So, football.london has rounded up everything we’ve heard about the 27-year-old’s future below.
Family spotted at the Emirates Stadium
David Raya’s family and agents have been spotted at the Emirates Stadium watching Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday. This suggests the Gunners will announce the signing of Raya very soon
Brentford boss update and agent ‘confirms’ deal
Brentford boss Thomas Frank has confirmed that Raya is set to join Arsenal this summer, claiming he is “expecting” the deal to be completed “soon”. An announcement could come as soon as this weekend after Raya’s agent, Jaume Munell, posted a picture of himself stood in front of the Arsenal badge at London Colney on his Instagram page
According to The Athletic, the Gunners will pay a £3million loan fee with an option to make the deal permanent for £27million next summer. Raya’s deal at Brentford was due to run out in 2024, but the report claims he will now extend his deal until 2025.
Medical booked
Raya will undergo his medical on Thursday ahead of a £30million move to Arsenal, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The goalkeeper will have his medical tests before being unveiled as an Arsenal player.
Agreement reached
Arsenal have reached an agreement to sign Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, football.london understands. It’s believed a fee of around £30million has been agreed between the two clubs, with the Spanish international expected to complete a medical in the coming days.
Transfer fee agreement ‘close’
According to CBS Sports, Arsenal are close to reaching an agreement to sign David Raya from Brentford.
The report states: “It is all change in the goalkeeping department at the Emirates Stadium with sources close to negotiations saying Arsenal are very close to securing the services of Spain international David Raya from Brentford.
The Gunners opening offer may have been turned down but there is will from all parties to agree a deal for the shot-stopper, whose contract expires in June. The 27 year old’s arrival will bring greater competition for Aaron Ramsdale, who saved a penalty in the Community Shield shootout victory over Manchester City.”
